Séminaire par Valéry Legrain, Université Catholique de Louvain. Visio.  Where is my pain? The spatial representation and perception of nociceptive and painful stimuli. Abstract: Pain is an emergency signal warning the brain about the occurrence of a stimulus having the potential to damage the body. The perception of its localization is a primary function as it allows detecting which part of the body is being hurt. It also helps to identify in the space around the body which stimulus is producing the damage. The present talk will present the cognitive mechanisms by which the brain maps nociceptive stimuli and integrates them with other sensory inputs in order to form a coherent representation of physical dangers around the body.
